EARTH Hour will take place, once again, at 8:30pm this evening, Saturday 22nd March 2025. This annual global event encourages people around the world to switch off their lights for 60 minutes to raise awareness of significant environmental issues.
Many of the world’s most iconic landmarks will also go dark for an hour in support.
Why is Earth Hour Important?
Earth Hour was initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007.
The charity aims to highlight the importance of addressing climate change and protecting nature, issues that every individual must take seriously.
Earth Hour serves as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in safeguarding our planet. It sparks conversations, raises awareness, and inspires people to take action.
While turning off the lights for an hour may seem like a small gesture, the true power lies in collective action and how every small effort matters. When the entire world unites for the same cause, it can lead to significant change.
On 31st March 2007, over 2.2 million people and 2,000 businesses in Sydney, Australia, switched off their lights for one hour, marking the start of the movement.
Eighteen years later, over 190 countries now participate in turning off lights to show support for environmental well-being.
How Can People Take Part?
The simplest way to participate in Earth Hour is by switching off the lights in your home for one hour.
Take a moment to step outside and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, switch off devices like phones and gaming consoles for the hour, and spend that time relaxing with family and friends.
Get involved in activities like walking, meditating, planting trees, or cooking zero-waste meals. Earth Hour is the perfect time to engage in actions that contribute to the well-being of our planet.
Spread the word about Earth Hour by sharing your participation on social media. The more people who know about it, the greater its impact. – March 22, 2025
