A RESTAURANT assistant tragically lost his life when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a cow on a road in Felda Bukit Kepayang, near Bera, on Thursday night.

Bera District Police Chief Supt Zulkiflee Nazir confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 10.45pm. The victim, identified as Muhammad Hafiz Khairi, 26, from Felda Bukit Kepayang, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was riding a Honda Vario motorcycle, travelling from Bera towards Felda Bukit Kepayang," said Zulkiflee.

"As he reached the location of the incident, the motorcycle struck a cow that was crossing the road, causing the rider to lose control and crash onto the roadside."

"The victim was confirmed dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the accident," he added in a statement on Friday.

Authorities have taken the motorcycle to the Puspakom Vehicle Inspection Centre and are now seeking independent witnesses to assist in the investigation.

"Further investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," Zulkiflee concluded. – March 28, 2025
