A BALLOON vendor who was allegedly assaulted by enforcement officers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is now receiving treatment at Hospital Serdang following what is believed to be serious injuries.
According to the vendor's lawyer, Mahmud Jumaat, the vendor’s mother revealed that preliminary X-ray results indicated a potential fracture as a result of the incident.
"The doctor has just carried out an X-ray and it seems there may be a fracture," Mahmud stated in a post on Facebook this Saturday.
In light of these developments, the lawyer urged the injured vendor to file a police report once he is allowed to leave the hospital, enabling further investigation into the matter.
"If the fracture is confirmed, legal action can be taken in court. This is not about whether the vendor has a permit or not, but about the severe injury caused by aggressive actions," Mahmud emphasised.
He also reminded that public servants are not exempt from the law and could face legal consequences if found guilty of injuring a member of the public.
"If the injury is confirmed to be severe, the individuals responsible could be charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence," Mahmud warned.
"Enforcement officers should adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) set in place. Remember, public servants are not above the law!" he added. - March 30, 2025
