THE B23 route connecting Ulu Yam Baharu and Batu Caves (Sungai Tua-Ulu Yam Road) has been temporarily closed following a landslide and hazardous flash flood conditions that occurred last night.
The Hulu Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) made the announcement via a Facebook post, confirming that intensive cleaning efforts are currently underway to clear the debris from the affected area.
"Motorists intending to travel towards Batang Kali or Ulu Yam are advised to take alternative routes, specifically the FT001 Kuala Lumpur-Tanjung Malim route and the B57 Ulu Yam Baharu-Ulu Yam Lama route," the department stated.
In addition, JKR Hulu Selangor urged all road users to adhere to the instructions displayed on road signs along the diversion routes.
“We appreciate the cooperation of everyone and deeply regret any inconvenience caused,” the department added.
Meanwhile, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed the occurrence of the landslide on the Sungai Tua-Ulu Yam road.
Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, the Assistant Director of Operations for JBPM Selangor, reported that the landslide did not affect the main thoroughfare.
“The landslide only caused a tree to fall, partially obstructing the road,” he explained.
The authorities continue to work on restoring the road and ensuring the safety of all road users.
Elderly Woman Among 50 Flood Victims in Batang Kali
Meanwhile, an elderly woman was among 50 individuals affected by flooding in Kampung Rawang Putar, Batang Kali, near Kuala Kubu Bharu, late last night.
According to Ahmad Mukhlis, the department received an emergency call at 10:23 pm regarding the flooding incident.
He stated that a team of six fire and rescue personnel, along with a fire engine from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station, was promptly dispatched to the scene.
“Initial reports indicate that the flooding involved three homes, one of which was occupied by approximately 50 people who were reluctant to evacuate,” Ahmad Mukhlis said in a statement today.
Despite the resistance, authorities were able to successfully evacuate an 84-year-old woman from the affected area and transport her to a safe location. She was subsequently handed over to the local authorities (PBT) for further action.
He also noted that the water level in the flooded area was estimated to be around 0.9 metres, although it was showing signs of receding.
The local emergency services continue to monitor the situation and assist those affected by the flooding. - Apriil 1, 2025
