Gas line fire: Residents evacuated, flights at Subang unaffected (Updated)

A HOUSE next to the exploded gas pipeline fire in Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, has caught fire.

Reports revealed that parts of the bubgalow at the Putra Crest neighbourhood at were already engulfed in flames.

Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) personnel are also in the process of evacuating residents from the vicinity of the gas pipeline leak, which has been burning for several hours, with an estimated 500-metre stretch of the pipeline ablaze.

A total of 78 personnel and 10 fire engines, four emergency medical rescue service vehicles, five water tankers, the HAZMAT unit, aerial ladder platfrom unit, as well as a breathing apparatus unit have responded to the scene.

Authorities have also closed access roads leading to the location to ensure the safety of the public. Firefighters continue to battle the blaze, and authorities are working to monitor the situation closely.

“At this moment, we are unable to confirm the exact number of residents who have been evacuated,” said a JBPM personnel.

Meanwhile, Petronas representatives have since shut off the valve to the exploded pipeline.

Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chief executive officer Datuk Captain Norazman Mahmud reportedly said flight operations remain unaffected at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, following the gas pipeline fire.

However, adjustments have been made to runway usage as a precautionary measusure.

"If there is any impact on operations, we will issue a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM). For now, we are in communication with the fire department," he said. –

As of 10.35 am, 25 victims were receiving initial treatment at a nearby temple.

A check by Bernama at the scene found that Ministry of Health personnel were attending to all the victims.

All the victims sustained wounds, burns, and breathing difficulties.

It is understood that five victims have been transferred to Serdang Hospital for further treatment. - April 1, 2025
