A TOTAL of 20 agencies have commenced investigations and safety inspections at the site of the gas pipeline fire on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, this morning.
Among the agencies involved are the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the Public Works Department, local authorities, and the district office of the affected area.
Subang Jaya Police Chief, ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat, said, as of now, Jalan Persiaran Harmoni has been gradually closed off to facilitate the movement of security teams. However, the road will be reopened in phases for the affected residents.
"A briefing will be held with all the involved agencies to conduct investigations and follow-up actions at the scene," Wan Azlan told reporters at the Incident Control Post.
Meanwhile, JBPM Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad explained that the fire department has already initiated several key actions, including assessing the damage to homes and vehicles caused by the gas pipeline explosion.
"We have also deployed a team on standby to deal with any potential developments, such as further fires," he added. "Together with TNB, we are evaluating the electrical wiring situation, particularly for exposed wiring.
“We will determine whether it is safe or requires further action before we can restore connections in the area."
Nor Hisham also highlighted that JBPM’s focus extends to the structural integrity of homes affected by the explosion.
"From a safety perspective, we will start inspecting the structures of the houses that were either burned or impacted by the blast. If any structures are deemed unsafe or pose a danger, we may proceed with demolition work, such as removing compromised roofs," he said.
To expedite the investigation process, JBPM has deployed additional teams from Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, and its Headquarters. These teams will also assist in facilitating the safe return of displaced residents to their homes as quickly as possible.
A Bernama report noted that dozens of affected residents had gathered at the site from as early as 7:30am to check on the status of their homes, and to wait for their turn to return and collect essential items and important documents.
Additionally, teams from the K9 Unit and the Forensic Investigation Unit from Bukit Aman were seen entering the site.
Yesterday, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussien Omar Khan confirmed that inspections by the involved agencies would take place today before residents are allowed to return to their homes.
A total of 364 victims from 74 families have been affected by the incident and are currently sheltered in two temporary evacuation centres: at the Putra Heights Mosque and the Camelia Hall of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council. – April 2, 2025
