THE Ministry of Education (MOE) will provide a RM1,000 financial contribution to its staff and students affected by the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced this morning that 107 individuals from the education sector have been identified as victims, including five teachers and 102 students. Additionally, four victims are still receiving medical treatment in hospital.
“We have identified those affected and, once we’ve gathered and verified all the relevant data, the assistance will be provided as soon as possible,” Fadhlina said.
This is in response to the destruction of educational materials, such as textbooks and personal documents, that were lost in the fire.
Fadhlina said the ministry takes full responsibility for the welfare of its community, including the students from 23 local schools.
“Some of the victims have experienced a total loss, meaning they have no school supplies left at all, as everything has been destroyed. I have asked for assistance in this regard,” she said, adding that help would also be extended by Yayasan Guru Tun Hussein Onn and Yayasan Didik Negara.
The Minister made these remarks during a visit to the temporary relief centre (PPS) at Masjid Putra Heights in Puchong today.
In addition to the financial aid, Fadhlina confirmed that counselling teams and academic support units will be activated at the relief centres to prepare the students for the upcoming school term, which begins next week.
“I have instructed the State Education Department (JPNS) to closely monitor the situation. The data is very dynamic, and we will track the affected children daily to ensure all necessary support systems are in place,” she stated.
Fadhlina also expressed her condolences and reaffirmed MOE's commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its affected members and students as they navigate through the aftermath of this incident.
Puchong MP Offers RM1,000 Cash Aid
Meanwhile, the Puchong Parliamentary Office will be distributing RM1,000 in immediate cash aid to families whose homes were destroyed by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, yesterday.
Puchong Member of Parliament (MP) Yeo Bee Yin confirmed that this aid would be directed to victims from Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru and Kampung Tengah, both within her constituency.
The assistance will begin distribution today, specifically for those whose homes suffered a “total loss” in the disaster.
“For those still in their hometowns, we will arrange follow-up distributions. As we receive the latest verified data, we will also extend cash aid to other affected victims,” Yeo said in a statement posted on her official Facebook page.
In addition to the RM1,000 aid, Yeo announced that a separate allocation of RM10,000 has been set aside for further emergency measures to assist residents in her constituency.
