PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Indonesia's Minister Coordinating for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, to his office in Putrajaya today, with discussions centred around strengthening bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.
Anwar, in a post on his official Facebook page, highlighted that the meeting was focused on advancing the close friendship and robust relations between the two nations.
"We are fully utilising the strong ties between our countries, particularly in enhancing trade activities involving Indonesian and Malaysian businesses across various sectors," he wrote.
The Prime Minister emphasized that strengthening and renewing the economic synergy between the two countries remains a top priority, reflecting their shared commitment to building a more resilient and prosperous partnership for the future.
As Chair of ASEAN this year, Anwar also stressed the importance of regional cooperation, especially with Indonesia, to boost Malaysia's position as a key investment, tourism, and trade destination both in Asia and globally.
"As the ASEAN Chair, Malaysia requires the cooperation of all neighbouring countries, including Indonesia, to elevate our collective capabilities in attracting investments and fostering growth," he added.
The discussions also saw the participation of Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who highlighted the need to further reinforce regional economic strategies.
In his own Facebook post, Tengku Zafrul emphasized the growing necessity of ASEAN unity in the face of global uncertainties.
"In today’s volatile global economic climate, ASEAN unity is no longer an option but a necessity. Let us strengthen our regional economy for the shared prosperity of all," he remarked.
He added, amidst global economic turbulence, ASEAN’s collective voice must grow louder and more assertive in shaping the future of regional and global economic policies. – April 4, 2025
