HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia today visited the site of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, which occurred earlier this week.
The King arrived at around 9.40am driving a Proton Satria Neo RS and was welcomed by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Also present were Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, the Chief Secretary to the Government, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, and Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz, the President and CEO of Petronas Group.
Upon his arrival, Sultan Ibrahim took time to attend a briefing on the incident before proceeding to the site of the fire in a four-wheel-drive..
His Majesty spent approximately 40 minutes at the scene, observing the aftermath of the fire, before heading to the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Masjid Putra Heights, where he met with the victims.
The fire, which broke out at the Petronas gas pipeline at 8.10 am on Tuesday, saw flames reach heights of over 30 metres, with temperatures soaring to 1,000 degrees Celsius. It took nearly eight hours for the fire to be fully extinguished.
As a result of the incident, 87 homes were severely damaged and rendered uninhabitable, while an additional 148 homes were affected, sustaining damage that, though significant, could be repaired to make them livable again. – April 5, 2025
