Selangor cancels MADANI Aidilfitri Open House in honour of Putra Heights disaster victims

THE much-anticipated MADANI Aidilfitri Open House in Selangor, scheduled for tomorrow, has been called off in light of the recent gas pipeline disaster in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, as a mark of respect for the victims.

Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, confirmed the cancellation, stating that the decision had received the approval of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

"In light of the tragic incident in Putra Heights, we have decided to cancel the Open House celebrations to show our respect and sympathy for the victims and their families," he wrote on his official Facebook page today.

Amirudin added that all preparations for the event, including food and supplies, would now be redirected to assist those affected by the disaster.

"All arrangements, including the food that was prepared for the Open House, will be sent to the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) in Putra Heights, orphanages, boarding schools, and to security personnel involved in the relief efforts."

He expressed his regret for any inconvenience the cancellation might cause, while emphasising the importance of prioritising the well-being of those impacted by the tragedy.

"On behalf of the state government, I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this cancellation, but we feel it is necessary to show our solidarity and respect for the victims," he said.

Amirudin also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the organising committee and task force who had been working tirelessly to arrange the Aidilfitri celebrations.

"I deeply appreciate the mutual understanding shown by everyone involved, and I pray that Allah SWT blesses our efforts in supporting those in need and helping the victims of this disaster," he said.

The decision reflects the state's commitment to supporting those affected by the disaster and demonstrates the unity of the people of Selangor in the face of adversity. – April 5, 2025
