A 27-YEAR-OLD man believed to be a Sri Lankan national was found dead on Friday in a flood-hit area of Shah Alam, with initial investigations suggesting he may have been electrocuted.
The incident occurred at a construction material storage facility in Taman Alam Indah, Section 25, which was partially submerged by floodwaters.
Shah Alam District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, confirmed the tragic discovery, stating that the police received a report of the incident at 10:51 a.m.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the premises also served as the victim's living quarters. A dog was also found dead beside the victim, and is similarly believed to have died from electrocution," he said in an official statement.
Emergency responders were unable to immediately approach the scene due to the presence of live electrical currents in the flooded area. According to Mohd Iqbal,
"Police had to wait for personnel from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to cut off the electricity supply before our officers could safely reach the body and carry out an inspection."
An initial examination of the body found no signs of struggle or other injuries. The deceased’s remains were subsequently sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for a post-mortem examination.
Mohd Iqbal confirmed that the case is currently being treated as a sudden death. He urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, saying:
"Any individual with further details is encouraged to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Mohd Fildza Che Ibrahim at 016-9537372."
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as flooding persists in parts of Shah Alam, heightening concerns about public safety, particularly in areas affected by power supply disruptions. – April 11, 2025
