ONLY six individuals showed up to protest the proposed international conference on Kedah Tua: Bujang Valley in a regional context.

The conference is to be held in May at a hotel in Penang where archaeological experts will debate about the latest findings in Kedah Tua.

The Bujang Valley and Kedah Tua enclave which runs through the Sungai Petani, Kuala Muda, Baling and Sik districts of Kedah have become an archaeological throve.

The findings spearheaded by retired academic and archaeologist Prof Datuk Dr Mokhtar Saidin, whose role is now assumed by Malaysian's own "Indiana Jones," Assoc Prof Dr Nasha Rodziadi Khaw from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM),  uncovered evidence to indicate that Sungai Batu and Bujang Valley have civilizations which are among the oldest in the region.

But apparently, the impending conference may touch on subject matters, which have riled up certain quarters over the history of the area.

Hence, the small protest outside the USM mosque earlier today, which however only saw a handful of protestors.

There were more plainclothes policemen than the protestors when the protest began around 2pm, after Friday prayers. - April 11, 2025.
