THE Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) has busted an international drug trafficking syndicate after seizing more than RM82 million worth of syabu, ketamine and ecstasy in Kajang, last Thursday.
In what is considered the biggest raid of the year, three local men, all related aged between 27 and 39 who were the masterminds behind the drug distribution and packaging activities were arrested.
NCID acting Mat Zani @ Mohd Salahuddin Che Ali said the drugs were detected to have been brought in from Latin America via sea before being sent to Port Klang.
"Based on the investigation, the drugs were hidden in items declared as plastic fragments before being taken to three locations in Kajang.
"The arrested suspects will then carry out packaging work before distributing it for overseas markets in South Korea and Japan while some in small quantities for the local market.
"All these drugs are estimated to be worth RM82.14 million and can accommodate 10.5 million users," he told a press conference in Bukit Aman, today.
The seizures and arrests were made following a series of raids last week and the drugs seized could accommodate 10.5 million users.
Of the three suspects, one tested positive for methamphetamine, while the other two had previous criminal records related to crime and drugs.
They are now remanded until May 1 and are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.
"Investigations revealed that the syndicate has been active since early 2025. The three premises involved have been rented since October last year at rates between RM2,000 and RM2,600 per month," added Mat Zani.
NCID also seized four vehicles, two types of Toyota Vios, a Toyota Altis and a Proton Saga, with an estimated total value of RM95,000 and if the value of the seizure and drugs is combined, the total amount reaches RM82.2 million.
NCID is currently collaborating with external enforcement agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) from the United States to dismantle this syndicate’s network at the international level. – April 29, 2025
