THE audit report on alleged irregularities in the recent PKR divisional elections is expected to be completed soon, said Party Election Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

She said the independent auditors appointed by the party had been monitoring the election process and were given full access to documents for verification.

Zaliha said they have since met the auditors and handed over all the material they requested.

Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently said that the party had appointed the independent auditors to look into complaints of possible irregularities in the party’s recent divisional elections.

The PKR president said the decision to bring in external auditors was made after concerns were raised over the conduct of the polls.

She also dismissed rumours that the postponement of nominations for PKR's central leadership posts to May 8 and 9 was connected to Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli taking leave.

No connection with Rafizi

Zaliha said the decision to postpone the nominations was made to allow more time for preparations ahead of the national congress later this month.

"It has nothing to do with Rafizi. As our president (Anwar) had explained, taking leave is normal for anyone," she said.

Anwar had yesterday brushed off calls to cancel Rafizi’s month-long leave as critics questioned the economy minister’s absence amid an ongoing global trade tariff war.

Anwar said there was nothing abnormal with Rafizi taking time off from official duties.

Allegations of irregularities have plagued PKR’s divisional elections following the implementation of a blockchain-based voting system.

This election saw several surprise defeats involving key PKR leaders who were previously seen as important figures in the party. Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad lost in the race for the Setiawangsa Branch Chief position to director and actor, Datuk Afdlin Shauki.

Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir Akmal Nasir also failed to defend his position as Johor Bahru Branch Chief. In Selangor, State Government Exco, Rodziah Ismail also lost in the Ampang Branch competition. – May 3, 2025
