“WARMEST congratulations to (Singapore’s) Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on leading the People’s Action Party (PAP) to victory in Singapore’s general election,” Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
“I wish you and your team continued success as you carry forward the responsibilities of leadership in this new term.”
Anwar emphasised the close bond between Malaysia and Singapore, noting their shared geography and deep-rooted ties.
“The prosperity and security of Malaysia and Singapore are indivisible. We are bound not only by geography, but by enduring ties of kith and kin,” he said.
Looking to the future, Anwar highlighted growing collaboration at multiple levels between the two governments, describing it as “a vital foundation as we navigate profound challenges to global order and international trade.”
He pointed to the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone as a key opportunity for bilateral success.
“Together, our two countries have the opportunity to make the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone a shining example of what neighbours can achieve, with conviction and shared purpose.”
“We look forward to deepening this special relationship in the years ahead,” he added.
It was reported earlier that the People’s Action Party (PAP) returned to government in a stunning victory, winning 87 out of 97 seats - or almost 90 per cent of the seats - and staving off challenges from the Workers’ Party (WP) without conceding any new ground to its rivals.
Against the backdrop of party renewal and leadership transition, Singaporeans at the ballot box on Saturday (May 3) chose political stability and economic safety over the opposition’s calls for greater checks and balances.
In all, 65.57 per cent of the 2,386,452 valid votes cast went to the PAP – up from 61.24 per cent in the 2020 General Election - in what was Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's first electoral test leading the ruling party. - May 4, 2025
