PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed he will defend his position as President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the party’s upcoming leadership elections scheduled for the end of this month.
However, as of 2pm today, the Prime Minister had yet to submit his nomination papers.
“I haven’t registered yet; the President’s post is still vacant. I’ll submit (the nomination form) later,” he told reporters briefly when met in Precinct 9, in Putrjaya earlier today.
Anwar was responding to questions regarding the latest developments in the PKR party polls.
Earlier, he performed Friday prayers and mingled with congregants at Surau Al-Iman in Precinct 9. He then had lunch at the nearby Kampung Pandan Kari Kepala Ikan Termasyhur restaurant, located just 100 metres from the surau.
As of 11pm last night, nine party leaders have confirmed their nominations for the vice-presidency, including three incumbents: Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Science and Technology Chang Lih Kang, and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has also announced his intention to defend his party position, but had not submitted his nomination by last night.
Meanwhile, no nominations have been received for the post of Deputy President, despite strong speculations of a potential contest for the party’s second-highest position. - May 9. 2025
