A FEMALE teacher at a secondary school in the south has been suspended from teaching duties following allegations that she was having an affair with someone else's husband.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the action was taken while an internal investigation was being conducted by the ministry as it involved the teacher's integrity, conduct and morals.
However, according to her, the teacher was still carrying out certain duties as a civil servant during the investigation.
“No, not (teaching). She was rested from teaching. We have removed her from the school so that the investigation can proceed smoothly and free from any interference.
“However, she is still carrying out her duties as a civil servant while the investigation continues,” she said.
Fadhlina stressed that the MOE takes any issue involving the integrity, morals and conduct of teachers in this country seriously.
“We take this issue seriously, whether it is official or viral on social media. We are responsible for ensuring that all teachers comply with the standards of integrity and teaching ethics set by the ministry.
“Hopefully, our teachers will always be reminded from time to time,” she said.
She also cautioned all teachers to ensure good behavior, whether in school or outside schooling hours.
“Teachers carry the image of the education profession and are seen as role models in society,” she said.
Earlier, an allegation of an affair between a female teacher and a man who is still married went viral on social media.
Several video clips also went viral, showing the man's wife confronting the teacher.
The controversy erupted when several screenshots of a conversation on the WhatsApp application between the two individuals went viral.
Based on the allegations shared on social media, the relationship allegedly began when the man offered to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and electrical wiring at the teacher's house. – May 27, 2025
