A CONTRACTS manager from a prominent construction company, his wife, and two company directors have been remanded in connection with a major bribery case involving tenders for a RM180 million data centre project in Johor.

Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted a seven-day remand until 24 July 2025 for the male contracts manager, while his wife was remanded for three days until 20 July.

The two directors were each remanded for five days until 22 July following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court this morning.

According to sources, the suspects, aged between 40 and 60, were detained yesterday in the Klang Valley during a special operation codenamed Op Ways by MACC’s Investigations Division.

Approximately RM7.5 million in cash was seized during a raid at the contracts manager’s residence.

“The cash is believed to be bribe payments made in return for securing six procurement tenders related to the project,” said a source familiar with the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspect allegedly demanded bribes equivalent to 2.5 per cent of each project tender value awarded to the two companies involved.

Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) of MACC, Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, confirmed the arrests when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Sections 16(a)(A) and 17(A) of the MACC Act 2009. - July 18, 2025
