Govt approves 16 high-impact programmes for Indian community under MITRA
Initiatives focus on education and training, spiritual and cultural growth, and social well-being - July 30, 2025

A TOTAL of 16 high-impact programmes have been approved for the benefit of the Indian community in Malaysia as of July 2025, according to the Prime Minister’s Department.

The initiatives, carried out through the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), focus on three core areas of community development: education and training, spiritual and cultural growth, and social well-being.

“This step reflects the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to recognising the Indian community as a vital development partner through an inclusive, progressive, and impact-driven approach,” the department said in a statement today.

However, the government clarified that several programme applications could not be approved, including those involving Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as they fall under the purview of the National TVET Council.

Other proposed initiatives were declined due to overlaps with existing efforts managed by several ministries, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), the Ministry of Health (KKM), and the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP).

“As such, coordination is required to avoid duplication of roles and resource usage,” the statement added.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to refining and evaluating additional strategic initiatives in the near term to ensure that the Indian community continues to benefit from equitable, sustainable national development.

“The Government firmly upholds the principle that every segment of the population, including the Indian community, has the right to share in the nation’s opportunities and progress in line with the spirit of Malaysia MADANI." - July 30, 2025
