THE 13th Malaysia Plan tabled yesterday mirrors Penang's development goals of Penang2030, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He said that the focus towards a need- based economy with emphasis on digitalisation, high tech and a strong socio-economic structure is in line with the state's vision.

"The plans can help the state to also realise its goals," said Chow in a statement.

Chow said that the plan calls for Penang to empower its people to shift towards a high value economy, improve its image and standing in the global order.

There is also emphasis on sustainable living.

As the state with the reputation as the "Silicon Valley of the East," the projects and investments under the 13th Plan can provide high returns to Penang, said Chow.

Penang is also a key player in nation building due its status as one of the emerging hubs for semiconductors.

Hence, it is logical that the state receives support in upgrading its infrastructure such as the Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) system, the expansion of the Juru-Sungai Dua route along the North-South Expressway stretch and upgrading the international airport in Bayan Lepas.

He also singled out the upgrading of the Padang Menora health clinic in Kepala Batas to cater for villagers within the locality.

Penang also welcomes the move to grow and harvest padi for at least five times in two years, as a launchpad towards consolidating the state's high average yield for the plant which produces the food necessity - rice.

Chow hopes the implementation facet can begin in earnest and effective to ensure that the 13th Plan can create the desired impact on the economy. - August 1, 2025.
