HIS Royal Highness Sultan Muhammad V has urged the federal and state governments, along with the private sector, to work as "a united body" in advancing Kelantan’s economic development, food security, and youth empowerment amidst an increasingly uncertain global landscape.

In his royal address marking his 56th birthday at Istana Balai Besar today, the Sultan acknowledged Malaysia’s resilient economic performance, noting the country recorded a 5.1 percent growth in 2024, while Kelantan saw an improvement to 3.6 percent, up from 2.6 percent the previous year.

“The services sector remains the main contributor to Kelantan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP),” said Sultan Muhammad V.

His Majesty expressed support for the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), tabled in July, which prioritises raising living standards and restructuring the economy.

He also welcomed initiatives under RMK13 aimed at Kelantan, including the development of a blue economy hub, improvements in fuel supply infrastructure, shipbuilding and repair industries, and enhancements at Tok Bali Port.

Turning to tourism, the Sultan praised efforts to diversify offerings and host international events, calling on the state to capitalise on opportunities ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

“I am confident the hospitality and community spirit of the Kelantanese people can drive community-based tourism as a product for the future,” he said, adding that local authorities must ensure tourist destinations remain clean, attractive, and well-managed.

Sultan Muhammad V also lauded the state’s continued focus on youth leadership, entrepreneurship, and digital innovation, while urging firm action against social ills including drug abuse.

Commending Kelantan for its pioneering role in banning vape and shisha since 2015, His Majesty voiced appreciation for enforcement agencies supporting the Control of Smoking Product for Public Health Act 2024.

Raising concerns over global influences and social media's potential to spread division, the Sultan reminded all Malaysians, especially the youth, to uphold values of respect and courtesy.

On sports development, he said the construction of the Bukit Merbau Sports Complex for SUKMA 2028 must be matched by adequate infrastructure, including upgrades to major roads such as the Kota Bharu-Kuala Krai Highway, the Central Spine Road, and connecting routes. - September 29, 2025
