AS Hindus across Malaysia prepare to celebrate Deepavali tomorrow, Cabinet ministers have taken to social media to convey festive greetings and underscore the festival’s deeper message of unity, hope and shared progress.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, extended his wishes to the Hindu community and emphasised the importance of togetherness among Malaysians of all races and religions.
“I and all members of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security would like to wish a Happy Deepavali to all Hindus across the country, especially to farmers, ranchers, breeders and fishermen who have always been the backbone of the country’s food sector. Happy Deepavali!” Bernama cited him saying in a Facebook post.
Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, offered a poignant message on the festival’s symbolism, describing Deepavali as a reminder of the light that transcends barriers of religion, race and culture.
“As the lamps are lit in every home, let us illuminate our hearts with the rays of humanity. Let the light of Deepavali penetrate the boundaries of religion, race and culture to illuminate the souls of all Malaysians so that they can continue to live in the spirit of understanding, respect, acceptance and celebration of diversity.”
He added, “We will not reach the light without going through the darkness. In every journey of life, there is sacrifice, there is perseverance, and there is love that unites. Deepavali reminds us that true light does not only come from lamps, but from sincere hearts, helping hands and souls that shine for each other. Happy Deepavali.”
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo also shared his Deepavali greetings, encouraging Malaysians to embrace the festival’s meaning as a source of motivation in a fast-evolving world.
“Deepavali Nal Valthukkal to all Malaysians of Indian descent!” he said. “Take this opportunity to celebrate Deepavali and strengthen the bonds of love with your loved ones and may this Festival of Lights bring rays of happiness, joy and prosperity to all of you.”
He urged the public to take inspiration from the occasion to continue developing themselves in line with the demands of the digital era.
The Festival of Lights, celebrated by Hindus across the globe, signifies the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil — a message Malaysian leaders have echoed as they call for continued unity, compassion and collective growth. - October 19, 2025
