ALL state police chiefs have been instructed to intensify patrols around schools to ensure the safety of students and education personnel, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail announced on Friday.

The directive involves regular patrols by unit officers, criminal intelligence teams, and special monitoring units to detect any potential threats or activities that could compromise school safety.

“I have instructed all state police chiefs to conduct patrols, either through unit officers or other elements. If necessary, personnel can be deployed to schools within one to five minutes using patrol vehicles,” he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman headquarters.

The move aligns with government policy supported by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to strengthen security in educational institutions, following the Prime Minister’s call to expand police presence in schools nationwide.

PDRM collaborates with the Ministry of Education through more than 9,000 schools that have appointed School Liaison Officers to act as intermediaries between the police and school administrations.

“These officers help monitor safety, student discipline, and crime-related issues around schools,” Mohd Khalid said, adding that the police will also enhance cooperation with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to address digital threats and cybercrime involving students.

“This partnership is crucial in safeguarding not only the school environment but also online safety. Increasing school patrols ensures physical security and builds public confidence in the police as a strategic partner in the education community,” he added. - October 24, 2025
