Masidi has held the seat for five terms since 2004. - October 30, 2025

SABAH Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also the Karanaan assemblyman is expected to be challenged by STAR's Anuar Ghani in the coming state election.

Anuar is the STAR information chief and also political secretary to party president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.

Masidi has held the seat for five terms since 2004.

Anuar, 65, who is the son  of the late federal minister Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Gilong,was unanimously nominated by the Karanaan division for the seat.

Masidi, 75, who is also the GRS secretary-general defended the seat with a 4,814 majority in 2020 when he was with Sabah Bersatu.

He won 6,696 votes against Parti Warisan’s Awasi Ganie@ Yasin Abdul Ghani who got 1,882 votes while the two candidates from Usno and Parti Cinta Sabah lost their deposits.

Yasin and Anuar are brothers but have taken different political paths. Yasin has since left Warisan and is now with Masidi.

Other opposition parties in Sabah - KDM and Warisan have not indicated their candidates for the Karanaan seat. - October 30, 2025
