Home Minister confirms deployment of 10,000 officers and leave freeze to ensure smooth PRN17

SABAH police are operating at the highest level of preparedness to guarantee a secure and orderly 17th General Election (PRN17), Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

He stated that 10,000 officers and personnel from the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) will be deployed across the state, with possible reinforcements from Sarawak if necessary.

“An order to freeze all leave has already been issued, except for certain cases which will be reviewed based on operational needs.

“For the whole of Sabah, we have a strength of 10,000 personnel, and if additional manpower is required, we will bring in support from Sarawak,” he said during the KDN MADANI: Inspirasi Malaysia programme at Dewan Terbuka Pekan Merotai Besar today.

Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Dr Awang Alik Jeman and Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Mohd Razali Wahab were also present.

Saifuddin added that comprehensive training exercises and simulations, including the handling and transport of ballot boxes in remote areas, have been carried out to ensure maximum readiness.

“Training and simulations have also been conducted, particularly in rural areas, to ensure there are no delays or disruptions to the election process,” he said. - November 2, 2025
