TYPHOON Kalmaegi, which battered the Philippines, was detected to be approximately 405 kilometres (km) northwest of Kudat, Sabah, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia, through a statement, informed that Kalmaegi is currently located at latitude 12.5 north and longitude 116.1 east, about 627 km northwest of Puerto Princesa, the Philippines.

Based on MetMalaysia's observation at 8 pm yesterday, the typhoon is moving towards the northwest at a speed of 30 km/h and has a potential maximum speed of 194 km/h.

"This condition could cause continuous rain in Sabah and Labuan as well as strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea waters," the statement read.

The death toll from Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines has risen to over 90 people today, while dozens more are missing and injured.

Overall, a total of 706,549 residents in 24 provinces were affected by the typhoon, including 436,911 who were forced to evacuate their homes, according to the Philippines' Office of Civil Defence (OCD). – November 6, 2025
