PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the Federal Government's commitment to Sabah is not only about the Malaysia Agreement 1953 (MA63), but also includes the development of education and basic infrastructure.
The Prime Minister said that Sabah has received the largest allocation for the construction of new schools since the current government was in power for three years, in addition to allocations to upgrade dilapidated educational facilities.
"Bad schools, potholed roads. We are dealing with all of these. The largest number of new schools were built during our tenure. Parents with children, please remember this.
"It's okay to get a little angry. It's okay to scold a little. I'm not angry. I understand. Sometimes people are in trouble, I understand, but don't say that we (the government) don't help.
"This is the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, we help the most people in trouble," he said when speaking at a programme with Sandakan Youth at the Kampung Sim-Sim futsal court, Sandakan, today.
Also present were two candidates for the Elopura and Tanjung Papat State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats, Vivian Wong Shir Yee and Tang Szu Ching.
Anwar also stressed that his government was committed to implementing the repayment of 40 percent of net revenue to Sabah as stipulated in MA63 and stressed that the issue was no longer a matter of political rhetoric.
He said that the government had returned the power to manage electricity to Sabah and approved a large additional fund to ensure that the construction of energy infrastructure ran smoothly.
“This forty percent is not just talk. Many parties used to say it, but it went into their pockets. Now, I am the Prime Minister. We promise, we will work for the people of Sabah.
“Sabah asked for electricity. We will give it back. They said there was not enough funds. I asked how much? RM1.2 billion. We approved. We will give it. To ensure that Sabah had enough energy,” he said.
Anwar also reminded the people of Sabah of the importance of political stability at the state and Federal levels, while stating that development could only be carried out consistently if the government was strong and worked closely together.
“We need a stable state government. We need a stable and responsible Federal Government. Only then will all the plans work,” he said. - November 26, 2025
