MORE than 36,000 people have been evacuated to temporary relief centres (PPS) as severe flooding continues to affect nine states across Peninsular Malaysia, according to the latest midday update from the National Disaster Management Agency’s (NADMA) National Disaster Command Centre.

As of 12pm, a total of 36,702 flood victims from 40 districts remained displaced, with Terengganu again recording the highest number of evacuees at 10,724 people from 3,111 families sheltering across 118 active PPS.

Kemaman is experiencing the most critical conditions with 2,497 evacuees, followed by Marang with 2,247 and Kuala Terengganu with 1,657.

Other states severely affected include Perak with 6,279 evacuees in 46 PPS, Perlis with 6,159 in 23 centres, Selangor with 4,342 in 31 centres, and Kedah with 3,302 in 14 centres.

NADMA also reported that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) had issued a continuous heavy rain warning for several regions earlier, covering parts of Perak, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and Johor.

To date, the cumulative death toll remains at two, both recorded in Kelantan — in Tanah Merah and Gua Musang.

Authorities are also monitoring several dams that have reached or exceeded full capacity, including the Sembrong Barat and Bekok dams in Johor and the Timah Tasoh dam in Perlis, where water levels require close observation.

The public has been urged to remain alert to official instructions and to relocate immediately if ordered, as flood numbers continue to rise in several key states.

In a separate update, METMalaysia announced the termination of continuous rain warnings for parts of the Peninsula.

Its Director-General, Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip, said the advisory covered Terengganu, Pahang, Kelantan, Perak, Selangor, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and Negeri Sembilan.

“The continuous heavy rain warnings at the danger, severe and alert levels issued at 4.30pm yesterday for the affected areas have been lifted. Based on weather model analysis, conditions are expected to improve and there is no potential for continuous rainfall,” he said in a statement.

The public may obtain the latest weather information via the myCuaca mobile application, and enquiries may be directed to METMalaysia’s hotline at 1-300-22-1638. - November 29, 2025
