AUTHORITIES in Pahang have confirmed that a Form Five student who was forced to wade through floodwaters to reach school for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations is now safe and accommodated in a school hostel.
The Pahang State Education Department (JPNP) said that investigations revealed the student’s route from home became rapidly submerged on 29 November, compelling the pupil to navigate the floodwaters before he could be transported to the school hostel.
“The student is now accommodated in the hostel of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kuala Lanar and is safe, as well as ready to sit for the examinations alongside other candidates,” the department stated.
JPNP explained that, in collaboration with the District Education Office and local boarding schools in the Lipis area, the department has developed a contingency plan to identify students living in flood-prone areas.
Boarding facilities are being provided to all students in the affected zones, even if they do not normally reside in hostels.
“This measure has been taken to ensure that all candidates can sit for the SPM examinations without any difficulty.
“The District Education Office and schools continuously monitor and ensure that the needs and safety of candidates are prioritised during this monsoon season.
“JPN Pahang extends its highest appreciation to the schools, District Education Office, security teams, and all parties who have ensured that the SPM examinations can proceed smoothly in the best interests of the candidates,” the department added. - December 2, 2025
