THE lawyer representing the family of UTM Skudai Palapes cadet trainee Syamsul Haris has applied to the Attorney General’s Chambers to direct the Director of Hospital Kota Tinggi to hand over the initial autopsy report and emergency room notes in person, rather than through third parties.
Datuk Naran Singh, representing the family, confirmed that while he had received a copy of the autopsy report at 10.40 pm last night from a police investigator, his application to the High Court seeks to compel the hospital itself to provide the documents.
“Yes, the document I received is a certified copy, but it came from the police. My application in court is to direct the Director of the Hospital to give the report personally. Why doesn’t the hospital want to provide it? What is the purpose?” he asked, speaking to reporters outside the courthouse.
Naran added that at least four letters had been sent to Hospital Kota Tinggi requesting the documents, but no responses were received, prompting the matter to be brought before the High Court.
He stressed the significance of obtaining the initial autopsy report for comparison with the second autopsy, noting discrepancies including injuries to the neck cited in the later report.
“Yesterday I received a report stating that the deceased passed away due to pneumonia. That contradicts the second report. For me, seeing what happened when he was brought to the emergency room is important. It is something I want to examine,” he said.
Naran further explained that a court order for the hospital to provide the documents directly would also facilitate future legal applications in case objections arise.
When asked about the hospital’s failure to respond, he said, “No reply. I sent letters to the Health Minister, the Hospital Director, and the attending doctors. Perhaps they are afraid to reveal something.”
He reiterated the family’s urgent desire for accountability, calling for those responsible to be prosecuted swiftly following the second autopsy, which classified the case as homicide.
“My hope and that of the deceased’s mother is simple — who is responsible? That is the answer we want as soon as possible. Those involved must be brought to court,” he said.
Earlier in today’s proceedings, High Court Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gucharan Singh Preet fixed December 12 for a further hearing to manage the application.
The prosecution, represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, requested a one-week period to obtain instructions from the Attorney General on whether the hospital could supply the requested documents. - December 5, 2025
