Reappointments confirmed by Yang Dipertua Dewan Negara, term runs until 2028

DEPUTY Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Fuziah Salleh and Saraswathy Kandasamy, the Deputy Minister of National Unity, have officially taken their oaths for a second term as Senators, in a ceremony held at the Dewan Negara today.

The oaths were administered by the Yang Dipertua of Dewan Negara, Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, who confirmed that the reappointments are effective immediately and will continue until 9 December 2028.

“These appointments are under the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Article 45(1)(b) of the Federal Constitution,” Datuk Awang stated. “This is a reappointment for a second term, valid from today until 9 December 2028, as provided under Articles 45(3) and 45(3A) of the Federal Constitution.”

He extended his congratulations to both senators, adding, “On behalf of the Dewan Negara, I convey our highest congratulations to both senators on their reappointment. May you carry out your entrusted duties with dedication and serve the nation faithfully.”

Datuk Fuziah and Saraswathy originally assumed their Senate roles for their first term in December 2022, and their continued service reflects recognition of their contributions and ongoing responsibilities within Malaysia’s parliamentary framework. - December 10, 2025
