THE Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has issued a warning as a monsoon trough is expected to affect the eastern regions of Peninsular Malaysia between 25 and 29 December, bringing the likelihood of persistent rainfall.

According to METMalaysia, analysis of the latest weather models indicates that the approaching system could also generate strong winds and rough seas across the South China Sea during this period.

“This significant weather event poses a risk to daily activities, particularly in areas prone to prolonged heavy rain and turbulent waters,” the department stated in a Facebook post.

Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant and regularly monitor updates on weather conditions through METMalaysia’s official website, social media channels, and the myCuaca application.

The warning highlights the need for residents and maritime operators in affected areas to exercise caution and make appropriate preparations to mitigate potential disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions during the monsoon period. - December 22, 2025
