SELANGOR UMNO Youth submitted a memorandum of protest in front of the office of Puchong Member of Parliament, Yeo Bee Yin today to condemn the representative's statements and social media posts which were allegedly rude, cynical and were politically provocative.

The memorandum stated strong objection to Yeoh’s statements which allegedly belittled legal issues involving former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, in addition to tarnishing political harmony in the Unity Government.

Selangor UMNO Youth chief, Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin said, as a member of Parliament and leader in the government, such actions are deemed irresponsible and contrary to the ethics of leadership and the spirit of unity that are often preached.

“We strongly object to statements that are sarcastic and seem to celebrate the hardships of other parties, especially involving the judicial process,” he said.

Mohd Imran also claimed that the action reflected political immaturity, in addition to sparking anger among UMNO’s grassroots and contradicting the principles of the Unity Government.

In this regard, he said, Selangor UMNO Youth demanded that Yeoh make an open apology to Najib and his family, as well as to all UMNO members.

He insisted that the apology should be made clearly and openly through the same public medium used to disseminate the controversial statement.

In addition, he said, Selangor UMNO Youth also urged the Puchong Member of Parliament to immediately take down and delete any social media posts or comments that were allegedly insulting, sarcastic of court decisions and hurt the feelings of family members and UMNO supporters.

“Failure to do so will be seen as political arrogance and a refusal to respect the sensitivities of the people,” he said.

According to Mohd Imran, Selangor UMNO Youth will not remain silent against any form of insult or attempt to degrade the dignity of party leaders and members.

“We also do not rule out the possibility of taking follow-up action, including public pressure, staged political movements and actions permitted by law if these demands are not met,” he stressed.

Previously, Yeoh was reported to have uploaded a post believed to be referring to the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision rejecting Najib’s judicial review application regarding the Royal Addendum which aimed to allow him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

In the post, Yeoh reportedly wrote: “Another reason to celebrate the end of the year.”

The post was uploaded hours after High Court Judge Alice Loke Yee Ching ruled that the Addendum was never discussed or decided at the 61st Pardons Board Meeting which convened on January 29, 2024.
