FORMER Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) around 9.30am on Tuesday morning.

Confirming the incident Dr Mahathir’s press secretary Sufi Yusoff, said, “Yes, he was admitted to IJN and is currently under comprehensive monitoring.”

According to reports, Dr Mahathir was taken to the hospital by ambulance and remained conscious upon arrival.

Officials are not in a position to say how serious until they get an update from the medical team, presently.

This is not the first time the former statesman has required hospital care in recent months.

On 13 July 2025, Dr Mahathir was admitted to IJN due to fatigue after attending a Picnic & Potluck event celebrating his 100th birthday and his wife’s 99th birthday in Putrajaya.

Authorities and family members have urged the public to await official updates regarding his condition as medical evaluations continue. - January 6, 2025
