POLICE are investigating the death of a local woman believed to be in her 70s whose body was found floating in a rainwater retention pond at Section U11, Bukit Bandaraya, Shah Alam, on Wednesday.
Shah Alam district police chief Asst Comm Ramsay Embol said police received a report at about 11.30am from a member of the public who discovered the body while fishing at the pond.
“With the assistance of the Selangor police forensic team, the body was retrieved from the pond,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Initial examinations indicated that the woman had been dead for more than 48 hours, he said, adding that she was a resident of a nearby housing area.
Later that day, at about 6pm, police were contacted by the victim’s family, who confirmed that the deceased was their elder sister who lived alone in a residential area close to the location where the body was found.
A post-mortem examination was conducted at Shah Alam Hospital at 9am on Thursday, with family members present to assist with identification. The family has since claimed the body.
“The cause of death is pending laboratory investigation,” Ramsay said, adding that the case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report and investigations are ongoing.
