POLICE have conducted a forensic examination and visited the home of an eight-year-old girl who died under suspicious circumstances in Taman Sungai Mas, Taiping, on Thursday, in what is believed to be a case of severe child abuse.
Assistant Commissioner Abdul Malek Ismail, Taiping District Police Chief, confirmed that officers also interviewed several neighbours during the visit.
“Based on the neighbours’ statements, they frequently heard the child crying at the house as if being beaten,” he said in an interview with Astro AWANI today.
The victim was the eldest of five siblings.
According to reports on Saturday, the child, aged eight years and nine months, was admitted to Taiping Hospital unconscious and placed in the Red Zone at 12.43pm.
Medical staff administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 30 minutes, but she did not regain spontaneous circulation. She was pronounced dead at 1.12pm.
Subsequent examinations revealed multiple suspicious injuries across her body. The autopsy confirmed that her death was caused by blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
Following the discovery, police opened an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Four family members — the child’s biological mother, stepfather, grandfather, and grandmother, aged between 27 and 53 — have been taken into custody to assist with the investigation. All four were remanded for seven days beginning March 27 to allow for further inquiries. - March 29, 2026
