A VIVID account of the fatal attack on Ulu Tiram Police Station two years ago was presented to the High Court in Johor Bharu today, with a prosecution witness describing how two officers lost their lives, one to a stabbing and the other to gunfire, while a third colleague was injured during the incident.
Corporal Mohd Khairul Azhar Abbi Paisa, 25, testified that he and Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, 40, were patrolling to prevent crime around 2.30am on 17 May 2024 when they received instructions via WhatsApp from Station Chief Inspector Mohd Hisyam Ezahar to return to the station following an ongoing attack.
“As we arrived, I saw the late Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, lying between the barracks and the station building with clear stab wounds across his face, from ear to mouth,” Mohd Khairul Azhar recounted.
He described the scene as dim and eerily quiet before Lance Corporal Muhammad Aznel Salleh alerted them that Ahmad Azza had been attacked. Upon assessing the situation, Mohd Khairul and Mohd Hasif sought cover as a suspect, dressed in dark clothing, wearing a mask and carrying a backpack, opened fire at them.
“My colleague, Corporal Mohd Hasif, was struck by two bullets in his left shoulder and left buttock as we tried to retreat. Later, another officer, Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, was shot in the head while seeking cover near an armoured vehicle,” he said.
He testified that he managed to return fire, hitting the suspect before the assailant collapsed near the vehicle. “I felt immense sorrow over the loss of colleagues I had served alongside for so long,” he said.
The chaos ended when a special response team arrived around 3.30am., and Mohd Khairul was asked to identify the bodies of the two deceased officers and the suspect.
The incident left two police constables, Ahmad Azza Fahmi and Muhamad Syafiq, dead, and Corporal Mohd Hasif injured.
The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Radin Luqman Radin Imran, was shot dead during the confrontation, leading to the arrest of five family members.
Radin Luqman’s father, Radin Imran Radin Mohd Yassin, 64, faces charges of encouraging terrorism by indoctrinating his four children and wife with Islamic State ideology between 2014 and 17 May 2024 at a residence in Kampung Sungai Tiram, Johor Bahru.
He is charged under Section 130JG(a) of the Penal Code, carrying a maximum 30-year prison term and a fine if convicted.
Additional charges allege that he supported terrorist activity by possessing four firearms, including homemade air rifles, to facilitate Islamic State operations, under Sections 130J(1)(b) and 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code.
The case continues as the High Court hears further testimony regarding the attack and the accused’s alleged involvement in terrorist indoctrination and arms possession. - April 8, 2026
