TWO individuals, including a deputy chairman of a non-governmental organisation, have been remanded for four days until April 25 to assist in investigations into the alleged misappropriation of zakat funds totalling about RM230 million.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Ameera Mastura Khamis at the Magistrates’ Court in Shah Alam on Wednesday following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The two suspects, aged 57 and 61, are being investigated under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
Earlier, both men were seen arriving at the Shah Alam court complex at about 9.07am in a MACC vehicle.
The latest development follows a broader operation by the Selangor MACC, which detained three individuals in connection with the case.
According to sources, two men in their 50s and 60s were arrested on Tuesday afternoon in separate operations around the Klang Valley, while another suspect in his 50s was detained earlier at about 2pm when he presented himself to give a statement at the Selangor MACC office.
The investigation centres on allegations of large-scale misuse of zakat funds, with authorities continuing to probe the roles of those involved. - April 22, 2026
