HIS Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim said he would select a new Chief Commissioner to lead the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), stressing that there was no need for any party to politicise the matter.
Sultan Ibrahim said that the position was very important in ensuring that the MACC continued to play an effective role as the country's main institution in combating corruption, malpractice and abuse of power.
"I will determine who the best candidate is to lead the MACC from now on," His Majesty told the Royal Press Office (RPO) today.
Yesterday, Wangsa Maju MP, Zahir Hassan, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had informed him that Tan Sri Azam Baki's contract would not be extended.
He said Anwar informed him of this during a meeting about a month ago.
Azam’s contract has been extended three times since he took office in March 2020, with one-year extensions granted in May 2023, May 2024, and May 2025.
His current contract expires on May 12. – April 23, 2026
