A TODDLER is in critical condition after falling from the fifth floor of a residential flat in Bandar Uda Utama near Johor Bharu on Tuesday morning, in an incident that has prompted a police investigation into possible child neglect and safety lapses within the home environment.

Johor Bharu North police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha confirmed that the boy, who is nearly three years old, is currently receiving treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru.

“We believed that the victim had fallen from the windows of one of the flat units,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

According to preliminary investigations, the child is believed to have climbed onto a sofa positioned near a living room window that was left partially open before falling from the fifth floor.

“The victim was found lying in the parking area of the block with head and neck injuries as well as internal bleeding,” he said.

Police have classified the case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which relates to negligence or exposure of a child in a manner likely to cause physical or emotional harm.

Radin said investigations are ongoing and further details cannot be disclosed at this stage.

He also urged members of the public with information related to the incident to assist investigations by contacting the Johor Baru North Police District Headquarters hotline at 07-5563122. - May 14, 2026
