BARISAN Nasional has reiterated its commitment to the Unity Government, insisting that the coalition remains bound by the post-general election political understanding formed to preserve national stability and prevent prolonged political turmoil.

In a media statement issued on Tuesday, Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir said the coalition respected the position expressed by Barisan Nasional Johor regarding preparations and strategic direction ahead of the next state election.

He said the views reflected discussions and consensus among component parties within the Johor chapter of the coalition.

“Barisan Nasional Malaysia respects the position voiced by Barisan Nasional Johor regarding the direction and preparations for the upcoming state election, in line with the views of all parties within the state Barisan Nasional component parties,” he said.

Zambry stressed that the political understanding underpinning the formation of the Unity Government after the 15th General Election was established based on national responsibility and the need to shield Malaysia from prolonged political instability.

“Barisan Nasional holds the position that the understanding and basis for the formation of the Unity Government after the 15th General Election were founded upon national responsibility to prevent Malaysia from being dragged into prolonged political polemics, and this understanding was agreed upon until the mandate ends,” he said.

He added that accusations suggesting Barisan Nasional had betrayed the Unity Government did not arise under the existing political arrangement.

“As such, the question of Barisan Nasional betraying the Unity Government does not arise,” he said.

Zambry further reaffirmed that the coalition would continue playing its role in safeguarding government stability and protecting public welfare amid ongoing political developments.

“Barisan Nasional will continue to play its role in preserving government stability and the wellbeing of the people,” he added. - May 19, 2026
