POLICE are on the hunt for three men linked to a violent armed robbery at a convenience store in Penang, after CCTV footage of the attack spread online.

The incident unfolded at around 9.29 pm on Sunday along Jalan Sungai Daun in Taman Bistari, Seberang Perai Selatan.

Footage shows a car pulling up outside the store before three individuals dressed in dark clothing step out and move in.

Two of the suspects, armed with machetes, stormed the premises while a third remained outside as a lookout.

Despite offering no resistance, a 27-year-old store employee was brutally slashed during the robbery, suffering injuries to his head and hand.

He was initially treated at Hospital Sungai Bakap before being transferred to a private facility, and is currently in stable condition.

The suspects fled shortly after, making off with cash, several cartons of cigarettes, and a sling bag. Total losses are estimated at around RM500.

Seberang Perai Selatan deputy district police chief DSP Mohd Norazmi Abd Ghapar said investigations were launched immediately, with authorities already reviewing CCTV footage to track down the suspects.

Police are also working to identify the vehicle used in the crime, which is believed to be fitted with foreign registration plates.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery.

Members of the public with any information are urged to come forward by contacting the investigating officer or visiting the nearest police station. – June 3, 2026
