MALAYSIANS may soon be able to get passports that are valid for up to 10 years, according to a federal government gazette issued yesterday.

According to the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026, which was published in the Federal Government Gazette yesterday, the fee for Malaysians aged between 18 and 59-years-old for a passport valid for 10 years is RM350.

This new regulation doubles the validity period, which was previously only for five years.

"Senior citizens aged 60 and above would only need to pay RM175 for the 10-year passport, while it would be free for those with disabilities (OKU)," read the gazette.

It would also be free for Immigration Department staff.

If the 10-year passport is lost or damaged, one would have to pay RM550 for the first replacement, RM850 (second) and RM1,350 (third).

Different rates apply for senior citizens, the disabled and Immigration Department staff.

"For senior citizens, the first replacement would be RM375, RM675 (second), RM1,175 for subsequent replacements, while a disabled person would have to pay RM200, RM500 and RM1,000 for replacements.

The gazette was signed by Chief Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and will be tabled at the Dewan Rakyat under section 4 of the Fees Act 1951. - June 4, 2026
