INTERNAL divisions within Bersatu have intensified after Machang Member of Parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal declared that the party was "on the brink of collapse", blaming president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for worsening the crisis through his refusal to compromise in the escalating dispute with PAS.
Speaking after attending a meeting of Opposition Members of Parliament at PAS headquarters on Wednesday, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said Muhyiddin's insistence on maintaining his authority despite the ongoing crisis within Perikatan Nasional (PN) was inflicting serious damage on both the party and the opposition coalition.
"What he is doing is truly damaging Bersatu and PN."
"He is still being stubborn and locking horns with PAS and all of us as though he is still the PN chairman," Sinar Daily quoted him saying.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal also questioned Muhyiddin's judgement in handling the political impasse, expressing disappointment with the Pagoh Member of Parliament over what he described as an irrational approach to resolving the conflict.
"What he tried to argue yesterday during the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council meeting was completely baseless."
"Let the leadership in the PN Supreme Council discuss the matter. I am disappointed with Muhyiddin because he does not have rational judgement in managing this conflict."
"In reality, Bersatu is on the brink of collapse. That is my observation," he added.
The criticism comes as tensions continue to mount following PAS' decision to terminate its political cooperation with Bersatu, a move that has raised fresh uncertainty over the future direction of Perikatan Nasional ahead of crucial state elections.
Earlier, Muhyiddin maintained that Bersatu was prepared to face any political consequences arising from PAS' decision and insisted that the party remained a constituent member of PN.
He also reaffirmed that Bersatu would continue contesting under the Perikatan Nasional banner in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections scheduled for July 11 and August 1 respectively, signalling that the party has no intention of relinquishing its place within the opposition coalition despite the deepening rift with PAS. - June 18, 2026
