A LOCAL salesman has pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court in Shah Alam today to a charge of severely injuring a motorcyclist by slashing him with a meat cleaver on the Federal Highway motorcycle lane last week.
Azmi Jantan, 43, entered the plea immediately after the charge was read aloud before Judge Datin Fatimah Zahari.
According to the charge sheet, Azmi was accused of intentionally causing grievous hurt to a 45-year-old man by slashing him with a meat cleaver, an instrument inherently capable of causing death.
The offence was committed at Kilometer 14.6 of the Federal Highway motorcycle lane in Section 13, at approximately 8:19am on June 11.
The charge was framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to twenty years imprisonment, alongside a fine or whipping upon conviction.
During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ho Zee Xing proposed a bail amount of RM30,000 with one local guarantor, coupled with additional conditions requiring the accused to surrender his passport and report to the nearest police station on a monthly basis.
The prosecution also requested a subsequent date to present the facts of the case and for sentencing.
Azmi, who appeared unrepresented, subsequently appealed to the court for a significantly lower bail amount of RM5,000.
After consideration, the court granted bail at RM15,000 with one local guarantor. The court also imposed the additional condition that the accused must report to the nearest police station once a month until the disposal of the case.
The court then scheduled July 8 for the mention of the facts of the case and sentencing.
Prior to the court appearance, news reports cited that a motorcyclist suffered severe injuries after being slashed by another rider during the morning rush hour on the Federal Highway.
Police investigations revealed that the victim was commuting to his workplace in Kuala Lumpur when he sounded his horn at another motorcyclist who was believed to be obstructing the designated motorcycle lane.
Displeased by the gesture, the suspect stopped his vehicle by the roadside and unexpectedly launched a violent assault on the victim using a meat cleaver. - June 18, 2026
