SENIOR leaders from both Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) turned up in force across Johor on nomination day, lending their support as candidates officially entered the race for the state’s 16th election.
In Johor Bahru, PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail accompanied PH’s Puteri Wangsa candidate, Dr Maszlee Malik, to the nomination centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Dato’ Onn.
The duo, who were joined by around 100 supporters, walked alongside Maszlee as he submitted his nomination papers.
The Puteri Wangsa seat has 128,723 registered voters, comprising 128,525 ordinary voters and 198 early voters from the police force and their spouses.
Meanwhile, in Pagoh, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin led a crowd of more than 300 supporters as PN’s Bukit Kepong candidate, Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal, filed his nomination at the Pagoh Sports Complex Hall.
Sahruddin, a former Johor menteri besar and the state Bersatu and PN chairman, is seeking to retain the Bukit Kepong seat he held from 2018 until the dissolution of the state assembly.
In Pasir Gudang, chants of “Johor Undi PH” echoed as PH candidate Sharon Teo marched to the nomination centre for the Permas seat at Dewan Muafakat Taman Mawar.
The procession, which began at about 8.15 am, was led by Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and drew hundreds of supporters dressed in red.
About 20 minutes later, Barisan Nasional’s incumbent Permas assemblyman Baharudin Mohamed Taib also arrived at the nomination centre with a sizeable group of BN supporters.
Further north in Tangkak, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook joined PH candidate Ee Chin Li for the walk to the Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim nomination centre.
Loke, who is also the transport minister, spent time greeting about 100 supporters gathered at the Tangkak Public Recreational Park before the group marched to the nearby venue, chanting “Johor Ke Depan, Undi Harapan.”
Across the state, the nomination process proceeded smoothly under tight police supervision, with clear weather reported in most areas. - June 27, 2026
