A MAN is on the run after leading police on a high-speed chase spanning almost 20 kilometres along the North–South Expressway (PLUS) near Rembau on Friday night, during which he rammed into multiple vehicles, including a police patrol car, before fleeing on foot into nearby plantations.

Acting Rembau district police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmi Ali said the incident began when officers on routine patrol at KM225 northbound detected a Volkswagen Passat with expired road tax and insurance, which had lapsed since May 7.

Police then activated beacon lights and instructed the driver to pull over for inspection, but the suspect allegedly refused to comply and instead accelerated away dangerously, swerving along the highway.

“Police officers subsequently sought assistance from the Seremban–Port Dickson Highway Patrol Unit to block all lanes at KM242 northbound,” he said when contacted on Saturday.

However, upon reaching the roadblock, the driver is said to have attempted to escape by driving against traffic and colliding with several vehicles in the process, including a police vehicle.

Despite the aggressive manoeuvres, no injuries were reported among the officers or other motorists involved, although several vehicles sustained damage.

The suspect later abandoned his car by the roadside and fled into a nearby oil palm plantation and bushy area, evading arrest.

Checks on the vehicle also confirmed that both road tax and insurance had expired, while the driver was found not to possess a valid driving licence.

Police have since identified the 30-year-old suspect and have urged him to surrender. Members of the public with information have also been asked to assist investigations by contacting the authorities. - July 4, 2026
