A 32-YEAR-OLD Rohingya man has been detained by police on suspicion of raping a 19-year-old woman in Kampung Kuar, near Tawang.

The suspect was apprehended at approximately 9pm last night in the same vicinity where the alleged offense took place on June 29.

Following the arrest, the Bachok Magistrates Court granted police a 6- ay remand order this morning to facilitate further investigations.

Bachok District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin, confirmed the detention and stated that the suspect would remain in custody for 6 days beginning today.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape. Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing. - July 8, 2026
