FOUR motorcyclists were killed and several others injured in a major road accident involving 12 motorcycles and a car on the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1) near the Jabor Toll Plaza exit early on Saturday.

The crash occurred at about 1.20am as a convoy of Yamaha RXZ motorcyclists was travelling towards Kemaman.

The victims who died at the scene were identified as Che Mohd Sufian Che Ghani, 40, Muhammad Hafiz Al Hakim Mazlan, 33, and Mohd Aizat Husni, 33.

A fourth victim, Muhammad Safawi Md Noh, 24, later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan (HTAA).

Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ashari Abu Samah said preliminary investigations indicated that the collision began after one of the motorcycles struck the rear of a car travelling in the right-hand lane.

"Upon reaching the scene, the motorcycle ridden by Che Mohd Sufian suddenly collided with the rear of the car.

"As a result, the victim fell onto the right-hand lane, causing several following motorcyclists to be unable to avoid the obstruction before crashing into one another," he said in a statement.

The collision also left a 13-year-old passenger travelling in the car with neck injuries, while the driver escaped unharmed.

Ashari said three riders were pronounced dead at the scene, while another died after being admitted to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan.

He added that the total number of injured motorcyclists has yet to be confirmed, with all those hurt currently receiving treatment at HTAA.

Post-mortem examinations on the four victims were scheduled to begin at the hospital's Forensic Medicine Department from 8.30am on Saturday.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving - July 11, 2026
