THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) submitted an application to Interpol on June 8 for a Red Notice to be issued against activist Tamim Dahri Abdul Razak, who is believed to still be outside Malaysia, in an effort to trace his whereabouts and facilitate his return to assist investigations.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the request was made after PDRM applied for the cancellation of Tamim Dahri’s passport as part of measures to locate the suspect.
He said checks on international travel records conducted with the Immigration Department confirmed that Tamim Dahri remained overseas.
“For the purpose of tracing and bringing back the suspect, PDRM has already applied for the cancellation of the suspect’s passport and subsequently submitted an application for a Red Notice to Interpol on June 8,” he said in a written parliamentary reply to a question from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) on the status of police action to locate Tamim Dahri.
The application comes after the Langkawi Magistrate’s Court in Kedah postponed proceedings against Tamim Dahri in March after the prosecution informed the court that he had been traced to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
During the proceedings on March 17, the prosecution said Tamim Dahri was believed to have left Malaysia through Bukit Kayu Hitam and entered Thailand on March 9 before being detected in Saudi Arabia via Bangkok International Airport.
However, authorities have yet to confirm whether he entered Saudi Arabia using a tourist visa or an umrah visa.
On May 17, the court issued an arrest warrant against Tamim Dahri after he failed to appear for proceedings.
Tamim Dahri is facing a charge under Section 295 of the Penal Code for allegedly damaging a sacred object belonging to the Hindu faith at the former site of a temple in Langkawi.
Authorities have been pursuing further action to secure his return as investigations continue into the case, which has drawn attention due to its religious sensitivities. - July 15, 2026
